Our story
On a trip celebrating our wedding anniversary, God put something on my heart.
For 28 years, my wife and I have run businesses that serve children and families. They are our ministry: we teach Christian values and try to let our faith show in what we do and say. But we don't talk about Jesus there by name, so that people of every background feel welcome. And honestly, I'm not comfortable talking about my faith. I often don't know what to say or do to share Jesus.
On that trip I felt the Spirit leading me to put my faith into action. To activate it. The word activate kept coming back, and I started spelling it the way you would on a license plate: ACT, the I as a 1, V, and “ate” as an 8. ACT1V8. It looked like Acts 1:8.
So I looked it up. Just before Jesus ascends into heaven, He tells His disciples they will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon them, and they will be His witnesses to the ends of the earth. That was no coincidence. It was exactly what I was trying to do.
And I thought: if I don't know what to say or do, I bet a lot of other people don't either. That's where ACT1V8 came from.
